October Storm

October Storm

One of my number one childhood memories is from a freak snowstorm that happened in the middle of October 2008.

It was a normal Autumn afternoon that ended with a blizzard.

We went to sleep as well as got our stuff ready for school the next afternoon. We woke up to multiple feet of snow as well as school was cancelled! We couldn’t guess our eyes. What my friend and I didn’t realize was that this storm would last a full week as well as keep most people out of school as well as labor for that entire time. The winds from the storm were so powerful that they knocked trees over, which then knocked down power lines. Almost all of my extended family lost power as well as lost heat. Luckily, my apartment didn’t lose anything, so my entire family came to spend the week with us. It was like one massive sleepover. Thinking back, though, it was so dangerous that several people were without heat. I remember the anxious faces of my aunts as well as uncles while they tried to get in touch with their HVAC representatives. Nearly the entire town lost heat, so all of the HVAC companies were overflowed with calls from anxious buyers. I knew, even as a child, that I should be thankful that my friend and I had heat as well as my friend and I were safe. About one week later, most of my aunts as well as uncles were able to get in touch with heating specialists as well as finally turned the heat on in their homes. I was distraught to see all of my cousins go back apartment because my friend and I had so much fun together while in the snowstorm, but I was ecstatic to see that most people was safe in their own homes. I guess it’s simple to forget how crucial heat is for our safety until my friend and I are without it.
