Space heater gets water in it

Every winter, I gather all of the space heaters in the house and prepare for the long, cold winter.

I make sure that they are all in working order and that each space heater is safe and good to go.

Without doubt, there is always a space heater that does not work. This year, it was the one that I keep in the spare room closet. I noticed that in addition to the dust, there was a little bit of mold on the space heater. I quickly tossed the space heater in the dumpster. I did not want to take any chances with a space heater catching on fire due to an electrical issue associated with water. What a nightmare that would be. After I tossed that one space heater, I started thinking more about where the water might have come from. I remembered the mold and my thoughts started to spiral. I hopped out of bed and checked the closet where I was storing the space heaters all year. As I had expected, there was a leak coming from the ceiling. I started pulling everything out of the closet. I am so happy I checked the space heaters for any damage before the cold weather got really bad. I guess the leak was fairly new, because there was not much water damage elsewhere. The portable air conditioner had little but moisture inside it as well.
