Got drenched, then frozen, in storm

The only option was to run inside the public building that stood in front of us.

You never know what weather you’re going to get in this area of the country. I know people always think that they have the worst weather conditions on the planet wherever they live… But I think that we actually might be a contender for the prize. Everyday it seems like a battle between the hot and cold air fronts that regularly passed through this area. You never know if we’re going to have days of the endless oppressive sunshine or if it’s going to suddenly cloud up, drop the temperature, and storm for days. Unfortunately, our weather changes at the drop of a hat and makes it very difficult to predict anything. This is what happened recently when we were out having a sunny picnic on a warm day. Suddenly, clouds rolled in, the outdoor air temperature decreased rapidly, and it began pouring. We were absolutely drenched by the ice cold rain that was pounding on our heads. By the time we made it back to the nearest shelter we were soaked through and through and shivering. All day we had been sweating through our shirts in the oppressive heat and humidity. Now, we found ourselves trying to hide from the icy raindrops. The only option was to run inside the public building that stood in front of us. When we got inside the doors we were extremely disappointed to find that their air conditioning system was still running. Clearly, the thermostat was set to compensate for the immense heat and humidity that we were experiencing earlier in the day. Now, we stood there drenched and shaking in our boots as we tried to avoid the air conditioning system. Thanks a lot, climate.
