Travelling across the country… with my own portable AC

When I travel, not only do I call ahead to try to arrange for a room with a working heating, cooling, and ventilation system, but I bring backup measures to make absolutely sure that the AC will suit my sleep preferences.

I am what you would refer to as a frequent flyer. Well, except that I’m always driving. I actually hate taking airplanes on my business trips because I never feel like I have enough control over my indoor environment when I’m trapped on a sky toaster. I would much rather use my own car or a rented vehicle to make my many trips across the country and back again. Call me crazy, but it all has a lot to do with my preferences for high quality indoor air. You see, having spent so many days on the road and nights in hotels has equipped me with the knowledge to always expect the worst. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been burned by low quality HVAC systems – literally. There is nothing worse than arriving at your hotel for the evening and finding that you have no working air conditioning system. I have had so many cooling system failures in my professional career that I don’t take any chances in my life anymore. When I travel, not only do I call ahead to try to arrange for a room with a working heating, cooling, and ventilation system, but I bring backup measures to make absolutely sure that the AC will suit my sleep preferences. I always bring my own portable AC unit with me when I embark on a journey. If I flew, I would never be able to afford this portable AC luggage. This need for high quality air conditioning at night is why I will choose to drive every single time.
